- 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
- ½ onion finely diced
- ½ green bell pepper finely diced (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar adjust to taste
- 1 tsp mustard
- ½ tsp chili powder optional, for a little heat
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- 4 –6 sandwich buns
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Drain any excess grease.
Stir in the onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
Add ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10–15 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
Spoon the mixture onto sandwich buns and serve warm.
